Elvio Pieri

Take me to the top - Betty Miranda (1984)

I found out about Elvio Pieri after getting into the remix of Anneclaire's "I Want" that he did. Arawa.fm featured this on their amazing blog and it has found a special place in my heart. I did a little more research on Elvio Pieri and found him to be a prolific Italo producer in the 1980. There is a small write up about him at DJ's Portal.

Savage

Savage - Don't Cry Tonight

Savage has a penchant for slow jams. And I suppose he could be the master of the Italo Slow Jam. Born Roberto Zanetti, Savage's biggest hit was Don't Cry Tonight but he has a slew of great pop songs. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe of the Pet Shop Boys were fans of Savage and remarked on ITalo Disco and his hit single in a 1985 interview, "It used to be regarded as utterly tragic... that "boom clap boom clap boom clap - clap clap", that's what I particularly like about Euro-Disco And normally they have very good tunes as well. The other thing is that it's very sad. They have very sweet tunes, like Savage's 'Don't Cry Tonight'." Check out another sleepy sleeper hit of his 'Fugitive.'

Lenroy Ciao Ciao Gigolo

Lenroy - Ciao Ciao Gigolo
(listen on imeem)
1987 - Spain
Label: Don Disco
Credits:
Backing Vocals - Eva Cruells , Nuria Casadesus
Drums - Checho Soler
Mixed By - Maurizio Tonelli
Producer - Fernandisco , Gino
Producer, Keyboards - J. Stefanelli

Had a hard time tracking this one down after the video was pulled off Youtube. Thank heavens I came across it before they yanked it because its pretty infective. He had a follow up single in 1989 called 'Big Fun.' It doesn't move me the same way 'Ciao Ciao Gigolo' does but its still fun.

Fidget Style

Crookers vs. Kid Cudi - Day 'n' Night

A little something different as we take a look at a sound coming out of Italy and the UK today. A special thanks to Biancardi Domenico for reaching out to Italobot. He's the director of the program Fidget Style, an 'onair syndication on Italian's radio' specializing in Fidget house, glitchy house with a very electronic feel. Born from the internet and often derided, Fidget House is breaking free of the confines of the internet and finding its way into clubs in the UK and the Med. The sound is being made popular right now by Jesse Rose, Switch, and Crookers.

The UK Guardian has a 'sniffy' review of this style of music but it sheds light on how another internet culture is manifested in the real world.

Biancardi's radio show is available for streaming and download and he has set up a weekly chart for the best 'Fidget House' tracks with links to the songs on last.fm.

Japan aims for walking robot on the moon by 2020

TOKYO (AP) — Japan hopes to have a two-legged robot walk on the moon by around 2020, with a joint mission involving astronauts and robots to follow, according to a plan laid out Friday by a government group.

Specifics of the plan, including what new technologies will be required and the size of the project's budget, are to be decided within the next two years, according to Japan's Strategic Headquarters for Space Development, a Cabinet-level working group.

Development of a lunar robot is part of a broad framework outlined by the group, which is charged with plotting a new course for Japan's space strategy. As a next step, joint exploration of the moon involving robots and astronauts will be considered.

The framework is to be finalized late next month, after the public has a chance to comment on the proposals.

The group also recommended promoting research into military satellites, such as an early warning system for detecting ballistic missile launches and systems to detect and analyze radio waves sent in space.

Other recommendations by the group include using space research as a tool to foster diplomacy with other countries and developing an advanced satellite to predict and monitor natural disasters.

The Strategic Headquarters was established last year by a law passed to advance Japan's space technology and exploration. It allows the country, which has a largely peaceful constitution, to use space for military defense.

Friday's proposal was released as North Korea was completing preparations to launch a multistage rocket over Japan. The communist country says it will send a communications satellite into orbit, but Tokyo suspects the North, which has acknowledged it has nuclear weapons, is actually testing long-range missile technology.

Japan launched its first satellite in 1970 and has long been among the world leaders in space technology. But in recent years, it has been overshadowed by China, which is aggressively pushing its own space program.

In January, Japan used one of its rockets to launch the first satellite to monitor greenhouse gases worldwide, a tool to help monitor global warming.

Morris - Tonight's the Night

Been busy setting up a website for the Happy Boys so I haven't been able to get a new podcast together. Hopefully this feel good German slow jam from Morris will put your mind at ease for the weekend. Its hard not to bob your head to this song's addictive chorus.
